Every new school term, families across Bukomansimbi face the same hard choice: pay for their children’s scholastic materials, uniforms and school fees, or cover food and basic needs at home. For many of the children and young people Friends of Bukomansimbi supports, that choice can mean missing weeks — or an entire term — of school.

The Back to School Drive is our ongoing campaign to make sure that choice never has to be made. Each donation helps us provide scholastic materials, uniforms, shoes, and school fee support directly to children and young people in our community, so that a lack of funds is never the reason a child falls behind.

Who does the Back to School Drive support?

– Children and young people across Bukomansimbi who are already part of Friends of Bukomansimbi’s programmes, and others in the community who need help affording scholastic materials, uniforms or school fees.

Is this a one-time campaign or an ongoing one?

– The Back to School Drive runs on an ongoing basis, since the need repeats every term. Donations are used as they come in to prepare children for the current or upcoming term.

How is this different from the Education Needed cause?

– Education Needed supports longer-term access to education through scholarships, school outreach and mentorship. The Back to School Drive is focused specifically on the practical, term-by-term costs — materials, uniforms and fees — that get a child through the classroom door.

How is my donation used?

– Funds go directly toward scholastic materials, uniforms, shoes and school fees for children identified through our community outreach. We prioritise children who would otherwise be unable to start or continue the term.

Can businesses or groups donate supplies instead of money?

– Yes. If you would like to donate scholastic materials, uniforms or shoes directly, please contact Friends of Bukomansimbi and we will help arrange it.

Can I sponsor a specific child's school costs?

– Get in touch with us directly and we can discuss sponsoring a specific child or family for the term — many of our supporters choose to do this alongside a general donation.

Will I get updates on how funds are used?

– Yes. We will post updates on this page each term showing how the Back to School Drive has helped children get back into the classroom.

Can I give on a recurring basis?

– Yes — since school costs repeat every term, a recurring gift is especially helpful. You can set this up during checkout.
